Scrolling that does not flow but steps. The surface resists until you commit, then snaps to the next detent — a scroll with opinions about where it should stop.

Where free scrolling treats position as continuous, segmented scroll quantizes it. The interaction trades precision for confidence: you cannot land between two states, so you never land wrong. Carousels, paginated readers, and the iOS picker wheel all descend from it.
